Growing a Forest, Raising a Family, and Learning as We Go

We’re the Drost family — Chris, Maree, and our three daughters — living on 17 acres of rolling land in Warkworth, New Zealand. A few years ago, we planted our first Pinus pinea (stone pine) trees. Then a few more. Now, we’ve got over 1,500 young trees growing — and a dream that one day this land will become a working pine nut orchard.

This isn’t a business (yet). It’s a family project, a long-term legacy, and a place where our kids can grow up muddy, capable, and a little wild.

Why Pine Nuts?

We could have chosen something quicker. But there’s something magic about pine nuts. They take patience, resilience, and time — just like good things in life. You plant them not for next season, but for the next generation.

Pinus pinea trees can take 10–20 years to mature. We’re okay with that. It gives us time to learn. To build. To experiment. And to make a few mistakes along the way.

What You’ll Find Here

This site is where we share our journey — the wins, the failures, the mud, and the moments. We post updates from the land, little lessons we’ve learned, and photos of life as it really is (boots on, hair a mess, kids somewhere in the paddock).

Thanks for Being Here

We’re not offering products or pine nuts (yet). What we are offering is a window into a slower way of living. If you’re curious about pine trees, growing food, raising kids outdoors, or just want to follow along — you’re in the right place.

Welcome to the family.
